			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Laurie Luczak</strong> was born and raised in Hawai‘i on the island of Oahu.  Both parents immigrated to Hawaii in 1959, from the Philippines and provided Laurie with multiple experiences between the Local, Immigrant, and non-Filipino communities.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master Degree in Education at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.  Prior to teaching she worked in the private sector for a few of insurance brokerage homes and companies. While at UHM, working on her MEdT degree, she became involved  with GEAR-UP 2006, working with students at the Farrington Complex.  After completing her degree, Laurie continued to work at the Complex by becoming a teacher at Farrington  High School.  Arts and Communication Core Pathway (ACCP) and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)  were her main areas of instruction during the past seven years.   Now entering her eighth year at Farrington, she will continue to be the AVID Site Coordinator as well as  the 9<sup>th</sup> Grade Hale Coordinator.  Her main areas of interests are assessment and curriculum.</p>

This is her 13th year as a teacher and has served all 13 years at Kalihi-Kai Elementary in the Farrington Complex. Since working at Kalihi-Kai she has served in a variety of roles ranging from regular education classroom teacher, facilitator (curriculum coordinator), and mentor teacher. As a facilitator, her primary role was working with grade level teams to develop, implement and assess standards-based curriculum, as well as, planning and facilitating faculty professional development. Currently as teacher mentor, her responsibilities include mentoring all second and third grade teachers individually and planning and facilitating faculty professional development.</p>
